New information has come to light to again highlight the significance of Cheltenham Park Racecourse to history. Besides being a significant site during both WWII and WWI, here is evidence of its use at the time of Mawson's trek to Antarctica:

The aeroplane which is to accompany the Mawson Antarctic Expedition,
and which was damaged in a trial flight on Cheltenham Racecourse,
at May's Motor Works, Victoria-square, Adelaide.
