Of the 120 residents at the latest public meeting, 102 filled in the following letter of complaint.
To the Chief Executive Officer of the Charles Sturt Council, 72 Woodville Road Woodville, South Australia, 5011.
I wish to register my extreme dissatisfaction with the performance of the council over their position on the future of the Cheltenham Park Racecourse.
I wish to register my disappointment over their failure to address the chronic lack of usable open space in this council area.
I object to the council's costly Port Road stormwater plan at the expense of the true water recycling potential of Cheltenham Park.
I express my concern over the council's handling of the Brocas Museum and the plan for increased traffic around the Woodville High School and St. Clair area.
A further 26 residents added the following comments:
1. Port Road stormwater plan too costly.
2. Cheltenham should be used as wetlands - also parklands - should not be used for housing.
3. If more houses, a lot less water.
4. We do not need housing there, its more water consumption, leave as is and maybe one day racing will come back there.
5. The Brocas museum should remain for the use of residents - a lot of hours of work have been put in there, I have a disabled grandchild who would have attended Woodville High School, but has now had to change his mind, as too much traffic for them to manage.
6. Use it for water catchment and open space, parks/reserves - there is enough medium/high density living in this area along with pollution and noise.
7. Council are not looking after us ratepayers.
8. We need open land for water to go to the aquifer.
9. You should be ashamed!
10. You are only money hungry.
11. Listen to the concerned ratepayers, I have lived in this area for my 68 years and we seem to be not given a fair go!
12. Please consider your people of Woodville and surrounding areas who voted for you and what they are requesting Re the Racecourse and Brocas museum - don't let the developers sway your judgments.
13. I am extremely disappointed in my council members being unwilling to stand up to the SAJC and compulsorily aquire the racecourse on behalf of all of us.
14. Keep open space for families and the public, this promotes people getting together and socialising - we need recreational areas.
15. Open space are the lungs of our shrinking environment - councils are puppets of this state government.
16. I think the council can only see making dollars instead of preserving history in this area for all future generations - the history is the ladder of the future.
17. When can the Historical Society of Woodville start moving the collection and itself back into Brocas House? - think of the future, reverse council's decision on this or you will be known as the council who kills history.
18. and the plan for increased traffic along the truck thoroughfare of Cheltenham Parade.
19. 100% open space Cheltenham - Stormwater aquifer recharge - Brocas museum reinstatement - preserve St. Clair - no more roads.
20. We do not have enough trees as it is - make the racecourse into an aquifer and wetlands.
21. Express my concern over the high population density of development and decrease in urban sprawl.
22. I was disappointed to see the lack of committment from the council in supporting the community - are you considering the effects of future generations?
23. The Charles Sturt Council should be so ashamed of themselves looking after other areas of council business which it considers non relevant.
24. Stuff the council and government.
25. Have the vision and energy of the Salisbury Council concerning water recycling - the spine shown by Adelaide City Council on their rejection of the Grandstand seems to be missing at Charles Sturt.
